Any wasps that you may see out in the open has initially come from and will return to a hive somewhere in the nearby area – usually these wasps are foraging for food to bring back to that hive, and to feed the wasp larvae inside. While these wasps may sting if provoked, typically they are little more than a nuisance, and only potentially dangerous to severe allergy sufferers.
However, the closer the hive is, the higher the concentration of wasps will be, and their behaviour will become far more aggressive and co-ordinated. Killing or provoking a wasp near the hive, or even getting too close to the hive itself, can set off a chain reaction, as the wasps will emit a scent that draws other wasps from the surrounding area to help them sting and attack, who will themselves emit the same scent, rapidly bringing an immensely large number of wasps intent on stinging.
These swarm situations can rapidly get out of hand, and an individual can be stung even hundreds of times before managing to escape resulting in excruciating pain and sometimes requiring medical treatment. Few people are aware of how aggressive and dangerous wasps can be near their hive, and it is easy to underestimate the severity of the situation until an attack has already taken place.
A wasp presence on a property is always a serious problem, and we recommend early treatment to prevent the possibility of a large-scale attack, which will only rise as the season progresses and the wasps grow more numerous. Our treatment is designed to kill of the entirety of the wasp population that is connected to your hive, typically only requiring a single procedure.
Our technicians will spray the mouth of the nest with a pressurised insecticidal dust, filling the inside of the nest with a compound that is toxic to the wasps, and which the wasps are also able to chemically identify as a poisonous material. Once they detect the chemical in their nests, they will naturally sense that it is not safe to enter their hive, and so any wasps not killed by the chemical itself will gradually die off, usually overnight, because they are unable to take shelter in the nest, which they depend on to regulate their temperature.
